Unveiled to the public at the Geneva Salon in March 2001 the mighty V12 Vanquish (MK I) was a statement of intent for Aston Martin’s new era. Its stunning, Ian Callum styled, state of the art bodywork featured extruded aluminium sections bonded and riveted around a carbon-fibre central transmission tunnel. The car also featured such advances as an electronic drive-by-wire throttle and a robotised manual gearbox controlled by twin paddles mounted on the steering column.
The Vanquish took its place at the top of Aston Martin’s range. It was produced, like the last of the truly bespoke Astons, in Newport Pagnell. A site that was more appropriate in more ways than one because in spite of all the high technology in the Vanquish; it was always more of a bespoke car than any other of the new era vehicles.
Familiar with the compromises required to bring the Vanquish Mk I to production, Bamford Rose has strived to tackle them via thoroughly engineered evolutions of the cars in a complementary fashion to the way the factory itself evolved the Vanquish. In addition to this Bamford Rose has developed considered upgrades to tackle known weak spots such as the Vanquish gearbox.
