Aston Martin’s new era started with the reveal of the DB7 to the eager public at the Geneva Salon in March 1993.
This car was a completely different beast from the handbuilt behemoths that came before it. The DB7 i6 was powered by a 3.2-litre straight-six, derived from a Jaguar engine, mated to an Eaton supercharger proving some 335 BHP. But it wasn’t the technical details that stunned the public. It was the styling which, particularly in its purest i6 form, is often referred to as one of the most beautiful cars in the world.
Indeed, the styling perhaps helped sell a car that was somewhat behind the performance benchmarks of its peers. Ian Callum’s wonderful lines didn’t get the go to match the show until the arrival of the 6-0 Lite V12 Vantage in 1999. With nearly a decade’s worth of development, from the DB7’s introduction to the phasing out of production, numerous upgrades were implemented on the DB7.
